Tour of Symbolics Genera
Begin with A working session in Symbolics Genera. It is the primary tour: one continuous, screenshot-rich story in which you use the Dynamic Lisp Listener and Command Processor, open the System Menu, move into Zmacs, ask for Help, operate on presentations, consult Document Examiner, inspect objects, reshape the screen, debug a condition, edit typed options, use compiler tools, and visit communications and administration activities.
The tour uses the licensed Genera 8.5, System 452.22 base world exercised through the isolated Genera Xvfb harness. The world is deliberately not configured as a Symbolics site: external routing and guest-visible file service are absent, and registered programs or service declarations do not prove working remote services.
Choose how to read
- Start the linear guided session if this is your first visit. Read it from top to bottom.
- Keep Genera orientation open as a compact reference for frame regions, presentations, Select gestures, mouse buttons, Help, and Abort.
- Use the application atlas after the story when you need the exhaustive D01-D60 catalogue, optional-product boundaries, or a direct route to a dossier.
The atlas is intentionally not the main tour. It accounts for media-only products, unloaded systems, site services, destructive administration, and facilities whose runtime state cannot be demonstrated honestly in this world.
The story's route
Dynamic Lisp Listener and Command Processor
→ System Menu and activities
→ Zmacs modes, Help, menus, buffers, and styles
→ Document Examiner and typed presentations
→ Inspector and Frame-Up
→ Debugger and Accepting Values
→ compiler and Flavor tools
→ Terminal, Zmail, Converse, and Notifications
→ Namespace and service administration boundaries
Short teaching GIFs illustrate the transitions and key gestures. They use complete reviewed frames and slow pauses; captions distinguish them from real-time recordings.
